Study Snippets

Dania Santiago - [Computer Science/Mathematics]

" Sugar free soda doesn't have real sugar in it, but the artificial sweeteners used still spike your glucose levels as if you have a regular one".

Mikala Simmons - [Communications]

"Advertising & Society Class: advertisers would associate products with certain icons. In order for consumers to remember their products. For example Schweppes ginger ale used to have “The Schweppes man”.

Bianca Perez Ramirez - [Business Psychology]

"In psychology, the Primacy Effect occurs when we better remember the first items in a list, while the Recency Effect refers to remembering the last items. The middle items in the list are often harder to recall when asked. In marketing, companies may place the more severe or less desirable risks in the middle of a medication label's side effects or risks list. This placement minimizes the likelihood of these risks being remembered by the consumer."

Ricardo Hernandez - [Marine Biology]

"Even though the ocean covers 70% of the earth, only 5% of it has been explored by scientists."

Mindful Breathing

To help you stay present throughout the day, it might help to turn toward your breath.

Mindful breathing simply involves focusing your thoughts on the breath coming in and leaving your body. You might focus on the sensation of the air as it enters and leaves your nostrils or the rising and falling of your breath in your belly or chest. Whatever feels right for you.

It’s not always easy to focus on the breath, as our minds love to flit between different thoughts. If you notice your mind wandering, gently bring it back to the breath.

If you’d like to make mindful breathing a daily routine, it can help to set a reminder on your phone a few times a day or make a plan to spend some time focusing on your breath every day before making dinner.

You could also try breathing exercises, such as deep breathing and the 4-7-8 method, which may help to slow your heart rate and calm your nervous system.
