Hi Desk Horoscopes

Aries (March 21 - April 19)

This week, you're feeling energized and ready to take on new challenges. It's a great time to initiate new projects or make bold moves in your personal life. Your confidence is high, so trust your instincts and don’t shy away from taking risks. Relationships with family and friends may require patience, as misunderstandings could arise. Keep communication clear and direct.

Taurus (April 20 - May 20)

The week brings a focus on introspection and self-care. Take some time to recharge and reflect on your goals. There may be moments of quiet contemplation where you realize what's truly important to you. On the career front, you could find that progress is slower than you'd like, but don’t get discouraged—steady effort will pay off in the long run.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)

Social interactions are highlighted this week, and you'll find yourself enjoying connecting with others. Whether it’s with friends, colleagues, or new acquaintances, you’re in the mood to engage. However, be mindful of overcommitting yourself. It's easy to spread yourself too thin. Focus on quality connections rather than quantity. Your communication skills are sharp, so use them to your advantage.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)

This week calls for a balance between work and home life. You may find yourself juggling responsibilities, but don’t forget to take time for yourself. Your career could be in the spotlight, and you may receive recognition for your efforts. However, this may come at the expense of personal time, so make sure you’re setting boundaries. Try to find moments to unwind and recharge.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)

Adventure and learning are prominent this week. Whether you’re traveling, taking a class, or diving into a new subject, your curiosity is piqued. This is a great time to expand your horizons and explore new opportunities. You may feel an urge to break free from your usual routine, and it’s a good time to embrace that. Your enthusiasm is contagious, so don’t hesitate to share your excitement with others.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22)

Finances and shared resources are in focus this week. You may need to reassess your budget, investments, or even a partnership that involves money. Be cautious with any major financial decisions, as it's a good time to review and revise your plans. Trust your analytical skills to help guide you through any tricky situations. In relationships, there may be some emotional depth to explore.

Libra (September 23 - October 22)

This week is about relationships and partnerships. You may feel more connected to a significant other or someone important in your life. There could be a strong emphasis on collaboration and teamwork, both personally and professionally. Just be mindful of balancing your needs with the needs of others. Compromise will be key to maintaining harmony.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 21)

Your focus is on health and well-being this week. It’s a great time to reassess your routines and make sure you’re taking care of yourself physically and mentally. Small changes can lead to long-term improvements. There may also be a shift in your daily work environment—whether that’s a change in responsibilities or a new approach to your tasks. Stay flexible and embrace the adjustments.

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)

This week, you’re feeling creative and inspired. Whether it's a hobby, a work project, or a personal passion, you have the energy to bring your ideas to life. Don’t be afraid to express yourself and take risks in your creative endeavors. Romance is also highlighted, so if you're single, there could be exciting developments in your love life. If you’re in a relationship, expect some playful energy to spice things up.

Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)

Home and family life take center stage this week. You may find yourself focused on improving your living situation, whether it's through home renovations, redecorating, or spending more quality time with loved ones. It’s also a good time to nurture your emotional foundation and address any unresolved issues from the past. A strong sense of responsibility may emerge, urging you to take care of others, but don’t neglect your own needs.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)

Communication is your superpower this week, Aquarius. You’ll have a knack for getting your point across, whether it’s at work, in social settings, or with family. It's a good time to express your ideas and share your thoughts. Be mindful of any misunderstandings, as clarity will be key. There may be a new opportunity to learn something exciting, so stay open to new information and experiences.

Pisces (February 19 - March 20)

Money matters come into focus this week. You may need to reassess your financial goals, budget, or investments. While you're generally good with money, there may be a temptation to indulge in unnecessary purchases. It’s a good week to practice mindful spending and make sure you’re saving for the future. Your intuition is strong, so trust your gut if you're making any big financial decisions.

Sentiments from Stephanie

Reminding you to call someone to say hi! (no texting allowed!) Reach out to a friend and say hi! Be humble & be kind! =)

Hold the door, say please, say thank you

Don't steal, don't cheat, and don't lie

I know you got mountains to climb but

Always stay humble and kind

When the dreams you're dreamin' come to you

When the work you put in is realized

Let yourself feel the pride but

Always stay humble and kind

Restaurant Recs

Adrian’s Surf n’ Turf Grill (Clairemont)

  • 9353 Clairemont Mesa Blvd.

Want to eat at a place where it nails both seafood and meat options? This is the one. Tucked away in a nondescript plaza, this slightly hole-in-the-wall establishment is a popular lunch spot for employees at nearby businesses. Every time I’ve eaten here, the quality is ALWAYS consistent. Proteins are always cooked perfectly to order and are guaranteed JUICY, no bland tastes or dry, tough textures. They make the kind of fries that are thick, but NOT wedge-y and perfectly crispy. Besides offering the typical complimentary ketchup/mustard/ranch condiments, there’s also (homemade!) chipotle mayo and horseradish. Head chef Adrian was formerly a part of Hotel Del, and the food shows it.

Stand outs:

  • Fish and Chips – Seriously. Much better than Pete’s Seafood and Sandwich at South Park (so disappointing 🙁)

  • Seared Ahi Tuna Bowl – Fresh and savory, you get a good balance of protein and fiber here

  • Rockfish Brioche – If I had to choose, probably the best fish sandwich I’ve ever had. I don’t find it to be a heavy dish at all, but YMMV.

  • Ribeye Baguette – This sandwich packs a punch! He does this ribeye justice, and all the components work together perfectly. I can easily split this into 2 separate meals.

Jennyfer Mendez [Human Biology]

Your DNA could stretch from the Earth to the Sun and back around 600 times.

Zoe Helzer [Mathematics]

The idea of zombies as we know them today is rooted in depictions of laborers in Haiti in the early 1900s, especially those by anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston. This is the context for the first zombie move called White Zombie which starts a trope of zombies as sympathetic creatures of the working class. This trope can be seen in more recent movies like Shaun of the Dead or Fido.

Take Breaks!

Taking regular breaks is essential for maintaining both physical and mental well-being. Our brains weren’t designed to work non-stop, and extended periods of focus without rest can lead to burnout, fatigue, and decreased performance.

Taking breaks, even brief ones, helps reset our mind and body, reduces stress, and boosts creativity and productivity when we return to work. It allows us to recharge, improve focus, and prevent exhaustion from building up over time. Plus, stepping away from a task can give us a fresh perspective, making problem-solving and decision-making easier!
